DULON LD6

Sports Racer

I am Andy Reeves the owner of the ld6 gt.In 1999 I purchased the car from John Chatham the healey man.The car had been in his possesion since 1974.He had bought it from Fred Lyons the original owner.

According to Bill Longley the car was commissioned and built for Fred in 1968,But club racers being what we are it was not raced until 1970 originally with a twin cam then latterly 1972/4 with an fva.Bill has told me that Lyons did not trust the lucas fuel injection on the fva and turned up with a wooden inlet manifold ! and a set of webers. This typified the club racer of the 70s.When i bought the car it still had the original chevron b8 wheels and crappy spax shocks. The history that I have been able to obtain was that the car was use in formula libre races at castle combe silverstone etc.

The concerns that I had when we completed the car was that was it unique?.The appearance of a car called a Callan was in existence.Bill was able to tell me that the roadgoing car was sold as an ongoing project but was substantially different in the chassis to facilitate egress,ie side pontoons chopped lower.

The car was also available as Bill says on ebay 2/3 years ago complete with a 2lt BMW motor. We have had no contact with these people since meeting with them at spa in 2004.And Bill was able to give them the full story.

One of the reason that there has been some confusion over the age of the car is that of its unique existence .It appears that Bill and Andy had a tiger by the tail with the success of the f/f chassis,But being young and enthusiastic could not resist the challenge when Fred Lyons walked in and ordered the sports car in 68.The body shape originated from Piper, although Bill said it was originally 2ft longer! Then Les margetts got his hands on it.....

The allocation of the chassis no has confused me but speaking to Bill he indicated that there never was a chassis plate allocated because there was probably an outstanding invoice on the car!.

I hope that this potted history will give you a little more background to my lovely little car.
